Shopping....

Hi from Anne. Mark and I found ourselves exploring a grocery store today on the edge of the city. We rode our bikes all over hell today, unsure where to go or what was what, but ended up at a riverfront restaurant with Saigon beer and fresh spring rolls. I bought a beautiful light blue shirt and a birthday gift for friend Andrea.
Anyway, these photos show Mark wearing face masks that are for sale everywhere and which practically EVERYONE wears to fight the exhaust fumes (personally, I don't think the fumes are that bad, but I'm only here for six months...). Another shows a supermarket aisle heavy on the sauces. Another shows a fancy boat that you can take overnight along the river (definitely not for those with children, though I'm still hoping that with enough "training," our nanny, Trang, might be cajoled to do an overnight for us, but that's way down the road...)
Anyway, we are well and looking forward to the weekend. We have two excursions lined up: Mark will run with a group led by Hanno, a German expat who runs a great resort here and I will take the kids to the resort for drinks and swim and we will all meet up after at the resort, and another on Sunday that involves another resort on the edge of town, My Khanh, much more local, but also involving a swimming pool and drinks.
Lest you think we're having too much fun here, please know we spend a good amount of time hanging laundry out to dry, trying to keep or get Lily potty trained, and standing in our alleyway for sometimes monotonous hours watching the kids bike up and down. Not a bad life, I guess. Very little excitement, but I do love to lie in bed for just a minute each morning and watch the sun filter through the coconut trees out the window. That part is good.
love to all,
Anne

Is that a Hello Kitty face mask? Mark, you look a bit like Hannibal Lecter.
At least you can be bored outside in your alley! I tried to run around in the snow with Elsie and she kept pointing at the house saying, "inside...inside...PLEASE..."

Hi All,
We're wondering what's in the
"??? Sexy" bottle that Annie is holding? And love the huge selection of bowls and containers for all that extra sauce. Enjoy all your resort hopping.
Love,
Barb

It really sounds like you've settled in there--thanks for the continued updates, and the great photos. We're doing fine, although Max was down most of last week with a virus. Yesterday all day the weather reports were saying that we might have enough snow this morning for a school delay--not one this year so far--but when the sun came up there was nothing (literally) on the ground. Oh well.
Say hello to Hudson and Lily from Sophie and Max, and enjoy your travels.

Hello and our love to all! Scott and I are horribly envious of your adventure and are devising schemes to get out of our current grind. Thanks for the inspiration!
When I think of how tough a simple beach trip was with a two-year-old in tow, I'm triply impressed with how well you're managing. This will be an incredible experience for you and your kids. I look forward to reading more about your stay. Much much love from June, Scott & Louie.

Greetings from Hong Kong! Wow you guys are practically natives after a mere month...congrats on keeping yourselves sane. Phaedra started in her new school two days ago, Maeve started eating rice cereal (and subsequently pooping rice cereal...we forgotten what drama ensues with solid food poop) and I'm here looking at Hong Kong harbor from my office while Dan searches for an apartment. Big changes afoot. Taiwan sounds like fun and I hope all goes well at the conference. We'd love to find some time for a rendevous somewhere and at a minimum host you if you plan to be in Hong Kong during your trip. Thanks for all the pics and the details...very fun to read!
